ExperiencePaul Kamikawa is the president and principle consultant of ABCP, Always in Business / Business Continuity Planning founded in 1998. His work focuses on Business Continuity Planning and Consulting. Mr. Kamikawa's client base includes health institutions, manufacturing companies, insurance companies, retail businesses, utilities, communications companies, petroleum, and financial institutions. He is a Certified Business Continuity Planner with the Disaster Recovery Institute and received IBM Consultant certification as a Business Continuity Specialist. Mr. Kamikawa's cooperative consulting methodology develops Business Continuity Plans for critical business processes. He analyzes the client's environment though a Technical Impact Analysis to determine how recoverable the business processes would be in the event of a disaster and makes recommendations to improve the recovery processes. Mr. Kamikawa also performs Business Impact Analyses which identifies critical business processes and sets priorities based on business need and cost of outage. Paul also has experience as an Information Systems Specialist. He has worked on IBM and non-IBM operating systems, networks, and client server environments as an IBM Senior Systems Engineer. Paul is proficient with Strohl Systems planning products along with other Disaster Recovery Planning tools, and has working experience with the major word processing, graphics, and spreadsheet applications. Professional Experience Mr. Kamikawa has developed over 100 Departmental Business Continuity plans and 50 Disaster Recovery Plans for large Midwest insurance company. The engagement included developing the methodology used to conduct information-gathering sessions to determine the impact of a disaster and training/planning workshops for the departments. Paul was lead disaster planner for a project for a large Midwest insurance company. The purpose of the project was to assist the client update and significantly add to a disaster recovery plan for the data center in order to prepare for an off site test and an upcoming audit. The company passed the audit and the test was successful. Mr. Kamikawa conducted a Business Impact Analysis for a large Midwest Utility involving 12 Business Units. The outcome will used to develop individual recovery strategies for the Business Units and an overall business continuity strategy based on the Business Process priorities brought out in the BIA. A disaster scenario was developed for each Business Unit. The Business Units were run through the disaster exercise as an awareness training session and to evaluate their current recovery capabilities. Mr. Kamikawa as part of a four-member team developed a business continuity plan for a large LAN environment for a Midwest retail business. Paul's role was to develop the disaster recovery plan for a multi-server 600 PC LAN environment. The plan included disaster definitions, team organization, implementation tasks, and testing / maintenance procedures. Paul led a five-person effort to develop a Data Center Disaster Recovery Plan for a large manufacturing company. The plan included disaster definitions, recovery team organization, implementation tasks, testing scenarios, and maintenance assignments. Mr. Kamikawa was the project manager for this engagement. Mr. Kamikawa has consulted on Information Systems migration strategies and justification for a large hospital, which included an analysis of the clients' current installed hardware and software and development of justification criteria for migration to a new platform. Paul worked with a technical consultant to develop a cost / benefits analysis for migrating to the new platform. Paul's work as an IBM Systems Engineer has given him experience with planning, migration, and conversion projects in a variety of technologies applications, and industries including: large multiple mainframe environments, remote printing, and complex network design.
